Anthony Fitheoglou is a research-led practitioner who sees value in traditional working methods. His professional development is an amalgamation of learning and travelling; as a detail-orientated individual, surveying enables him to understand the tectonic and material qualities of buildings to inform his proposals. 

 

His early education played a vital role in the influences and references he uses within his proposals. Lectures in History of Art allowed him to gain a broader appreciation for the arts, approaching briefs with sensitivity and consideration. A defining point in his architectural development was during his Master’s Degree at the Kingston School of Art when joining Unit 6 – The only design unit teaching the principles and application of the classical language in architecture, tutored by Timothy Smith and Jonathan Taylor. With growing enthusiasm for the classical language, he attended the Engelsberg Summer School in Classical Architecture developing his literacy in the classical language. 

 

Graduating with distinction, his thesis ‘Chambers of Commerce – A New Modern Classical Building for the City of Glasgow’ was nominated for the RIBA President’s Silver Medal 2020, shortlisted for the RIBA SWLG Awards 2020 and became the winning entry to the Traditional Architecture Group’s Student Design Competition 2021. The project was later exhibited by the New Glasgow Society – Imagine Glasgow 2021 event during COP26 in Glasgow. 

 

With a commitment to the discipline of classical and traditional architecture, Anthony was awarded the Worshipful Company of Masons Craft Fund to study at the Building Crafts College acquiring practical skills on the City & Guilds Assured Stonemasonry Heritage Course. His methodically nurtured education is complemented with the knowledge of technical drawing and producing templet moulds/profiles, all of which are essential information to draw existing, new or replacement stone components to the built environment.
