Traditional Building Skills Foundation Programme: Fully Booked!

The course offers the opportunity to learn about traditional materials, tools, structure, design and the maintenance and repair of historic buildings. The participants will be able to work on 14th century sites on small repairs under the supervision of leading European heritage tutors and INTBAU staff. There will be visits to a number of places with remarkable medieval architecture, including the villages of Viscri and Saschiz and the towns of Sibiu and Sighisoara, many included on the UNESCO Heritage List.

The training programme includes:

  • introduction to INTBAU and the work programme;
  • tools, conservation and restoration;
  • structures & materials;
  • lecture & practical: lime mortar for stone work, brick work and plaster;
  • lecture & practical: mixing lime mortars & additives;
  • lecture & practical: cutting out defective mortar from stone and brick work;
  • lime pointing and dubbing out stone work and brickwork;
  • question and answer sessions
