International New Vernacular Architecture Seminar, Madrid

This seminar will be held alongside the Rafael Manzano prize for New Traditional Architecture this October.

Each year this international seminar is held in Madrid to coincide with the award ceremony of the Rafael Manzano Prize for New Traditional Architecture.

The seminar helps to encourage traditional building, architecture and urban design amongst younger professionals who specialise in construction, architecture and urbanism.

This year, the 2019 seminar is entitled ‘New Vernacular Architecture’, and will be held at the School of Architecture of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (ETSAM) on October 17 and 18. It is divided into five sessions:

– First Session: New Vernacular Architecture
– Second Session: New Vernacular Architecture II
– Third Session: Traditional Building Crafts and the continuity of Vernacular Architecture
– Forth Session: Modern Vernacular Architecture in the Contemporary World
– Closing Session

The registration is free for all those who book, and an attendance certificate can be obtained by writing to: premiorafaelmanzano@gmail.com.

The lectures will be in both Spanish and English, but translation will be provided for all of them.

The seminar has been organized by INTBAU, the Rafael Manzano Prize for New Traditional Architecture and the School of Architecture of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, thanks to the support of the Richard H. Driehaus Charitable Lead Trust, through a grant from the Chicago Community Foundation for the Richard H. Driehaus Charitable Fund, and the collaboration of the EKABA Foundation, the Fundação Serra Henriques, the Escola Superior Gallaecia, the Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio, and the Centro de Investigación de Arquitectura Tradicional (CIAT-UPM).
