INTBAU Georgia was established in 2026 and is hosted by the Adgili Platform.

Adgili is an independent architecture platform, bringing together architects, researchers and curious minds interested in vernacular architecture, place, culture and identity.

Georgia has a rich and diverse architectural tradition, shaped by its landscapes, borderlands, history, climate, materials, craftsmanship and ways of living. Yet there remains a significant gap in the research, documentation and accessibility of this knowledge, as well as its integration to the built environment. Much of it is dispersed, passed down orally or held within communities and families, while remaining difficult to access for wider audiences.

Adgili is addressing this gap. By looking closely, asking questions, building relationships and connecting the dots between different places, practices and generations.

We look to the past not to keep it frozen, but to learn from it and carry its knowledge forward.

We aim to make this knowledge more accessible. Through research, documentation, translation, writing, conversations and public programmes, we work to bring vernacular architecture into dialogue with a wider audience.

THINKING THROUGH MAKING

We believe that some things can only be understood by making them.

For us, making generates energy. It connects people, knowledge and materials, and creates a space where different generations can learn from one another. This exchange is central to how we work and how we hope to move knowledge forward.

Exploring Georgia’s architecture, heritage and contemporary challenges through essays, fieldwork, drawings, interviews, photography and accessible forms of translation.

• Expeditions & Workshops

Going into the landscape to study buildings, settlements, materials and ways of living directly in the places where they belong, while learning from the communities who maintain this knowledge.

We want to learn, reinterpret and build again — respecting traditions and existing knowledge while allowing them to evolve with contemporary life.

We believe that the dialogue between past and present, experience and curiosity, local knowledge and wider audiences, preservation and change can lead to a new vernacular: architecture rooted in its place, informed by the past, and made for the lives of today and tomorrow.

CURRENT WORK

From 7–12 September 2026, Adgili undertook an architectural research expedition to Khevsureti, a remote mountainous region of eastern Georgia.
