Graduating from the Faculty of Architecture at Delft University of Technology in 1982, Mieke Bosse has worked as an architect for over 40 years. Throughout her career, she has been actively involved in significant movements and initiatives addressing housing, community, architecture, and urban development.

She worked alongside Peter Drijver and local activists to save the Pander factories in The Hague from demolition, an effort that earned them the National Renovation Prize in 1989. This marked the beginning of her involvement in a number of heritage projects focused on buildings threatened with demolition but valued by their local communities.

In 1988, she co-founded Scala Architects with Peter Drijver. Alongside restoration projects, the practice also developed new terraced housing, with the qualities of existing historic buildings and their growing technical expertise in heritage conservation informing the design of new developments. As the housing market shifted from rental to home ownership, Scala combined its experience in traditional architecture and heritage with new residential projects. The practice also collaborated with Rob Krier on several masterplans, including Resident in The Hague, Vleuterweide in Utrecht, and Brandevoort.

Both Peter and Mieke participated in the early events of the INTBAU network, including A Vision of Europe in Bologna and the CEU in Stockholm. Over many years, Mieke served as Chair of INTBAU Netherlands, helping to establish initiatives such as the Let’s Build a Beautiful City! Summer School, while also contributing as an instructor and supporting a wide range of programmes across the Network. She continued to serve as Chair until 2025.

Her voluntary contribution to INTBAU’s governance has also been exceptional. Mieke played a leading role in the development of INTBAU’s new Constitution, a substantial undertaking that culminated in its adoption by both the International Council of Chapters and the Board of Trustees in 2025.

Alongside her architectural practice, Mieke has taught throughout her career. Since graduating, she has held teaching positions at Delft University of Technology, the Academies of Rotterdam and Amsterdam, Hochschule Hamburg and Hannover, and the University of Minnesota. She has also taught at Summer Schools for Traditional and Classical Design in Engelsberg, Bruges, and Utrecht.
