Living Traditions
for the FutureImmerse yourself in a transformative summer experience and join a growing community of building professionals committed to creating a future rooted in tradition.

Every year, INTBAU Chapters offer innovative education opportunities in the built environment, hosting students from around the globe. In 2025 and 2026, the network will continue to grow our offer, with programmes in the Netherlands, France, Spain, Qatar, Brazil, Belgium, Austria, Mexico, Norway, and more.
Our programmes cover a wide range of topics and activities, spanning from lectures and round tables on traditional construction techniques and styles, natural materials, urbanism, and aesthetics, to site visits, studio practice and hands-on workshops on drawing, stone carving, carpentry, ironwork, tile making, brick masonry, and more, guided by leading experts from around the world.

In the face of rapid urbanisation and climate change, many of Qatar’s traditional building practices risk being lost — along with the sustainability knowledge they embody.
Through lectures, field study, workshops, and design studios, participants will study Qatar’s craft and building traditions — from mud and palm construction to seafaring and nomadic architectures — and reinterpret them as strategies for adaptation amidst climate change.
Over fourteen intensive days, students and professionals will collaborate on a pilot design intervention, combining traditional wisdom with contemporary sustainability.
Each Winter School edition leaves a measurable legacy: new documentation, new partnerships, and a growing network of practitioners devoted to building with care, context, and continuity.
