He has lectured extensively throughout the United States on the subject of classical architecture.

Work

After training with some of the most recognized residential architectural firms in America, in 2015 Phillip started his own design firm Phillip James Dodd: Bespoke Residential Design LLC. Already with a reputation as one of the foremost experts on classical architecture and interiors, Phillip is now fast becoming one of the most sought-after young residential designers practicing today. Ranging from a 800 square foot pied-a-terre to a 20,000 square foot estate, his designs can found in Greenwich, Manhattan and Palm Beach – the latter where he specializes in designing Anglo-Caribbean and Spanish-Mediterranean style retreats for clients based in the New York and Connecticut area.

Phillip is also a highly acclaimed author, with two bestselling books. Published in 2013, The Art of Classical Details: Theory Design and Craftsmanship takes a close-up look at some of the finest examples of contemporary classical architecture, with essays and projects from leading classicists. His much anticipated follow-up, An Ideal Collaboration: The Art of Classical Details II was published in 2015. Currently, Phillip is working with photographer Jonathan Wallen on a lavish new volume on The Beaux-Arts Architecture of New York City (due to be released in 2018). The book features a foreword by Julian Fellowes, the creator of Downton Abbey.

Phillip has also been appointed as the Editor-At-Large of the Classical Architecture Collection, a new series of books published by Images Publishing Group. The first of these books The Classical American House was published in the Fall of 2017, featuring an introduction by Phillip. This and Phillip’s other books have also been translated into Mandarin for sale in the lucrative Chinese market.
