Carmine Carapella

Carmine Carapella is a licenced architect working on residential architecture, preservation and urban planning. Born in Lucera (FG), he studied architecture at the Universita La Sapienza in Rome having obtained his Laurea in Architettura in 1990. His studies focused on history of architecture, architectural restoration and historical preservation and Urban Planning. In 1989 he was an Erasmus graduate from the “Rhenish – Westphalian Technical University” of Aachen, Germany. In 1999 Carmine Carapella was awarded a Masters degree in Architecture from the Notre Dame University, School of Architecture South Bend, after completing a study on classical and traditional architecture.

From 1997 – 1999, Carmine Carapella was a teaching assistant at the University of Notre Dame, being responsible for design and drawing classes. Previously he worked as a teaching assistant for the architectural composition class at the Universita La Sapienza in Rome.

Work

Carmine Carapella works as an architect and designer as well as a consultant on preservation and planning projects. During his practice at Devlin Architecture, a practice based in Pittsburgh, USA, as a Senior Designer Architect, he has been responsible for a number of projects including, Ramble Mountain Village, Asheville, NC. Manchester Housing, Pittsburgh, PA, Wildflower Development at Paradise Point, MD and Orrs Jewelers, Pittsburgh, PA.

From 2005 – 2006 Carmine Carapella worked for Cooper Johnson Smith Architects Inc, based in Florida, United States as a Design Architect and project manager. He was responsible for two major projects: Suwannee Gables Hotel, Old Town, Florida, and Columbus Beach Cottages, Turk and Caicos. After completing his studies in Rome, Carmine Carapella joined Mannelli Restauri, an Italian practice specializing in heritage restoration projects.

Carmine Carapella was honored with a number of design awards over the last few years. Both in 2007 and 2008 he was the recipient of the Gold Medal “Craftsmanship Award” from the Ashville Home Builders Association. In 2007 he received the “Award of Excellence in Design” from the City of Virginia Beach Planning Commission. In 2009 he received the Golden Trowel Award from the International Masonry Institute for the Orr’s Jewelers store in Pittsburgh. In 1999 he was one of the finalists of the EUROPAN III, Spain.
