Italian Tradition in Drawing, Painting & Architecture

INTBAU Italy's summer programme will introduce participants to the issues of the Italian tradition in drawing, painting and architecture. The programme is a 3-week journey dedicated to the study of Italian cities influenced by Renaissance culture according to local traditions, building skills, and art and craft techniques too.

The summer programme is a studio of practical intent, giving the opportunity to improve techniques of surveying, analyzing and drawing places, architectural landmarks, masterpieces of art and craft. Italy offers an abundance of universal templates, living lessons for everybody interested in the culture of places and tradition through its heritage of art, design and architecture.



Course objectives:
•    to have a strong understanding of Italy’s diverse history, culture, traditions, art, architecture and design;
•    to be able to perform architectural and urban design technical sketching from observation to more formal layouts;
•    to gain immense knowledge of the famous architects and masterplanners, such as Alberti, Bernini, Bibiena, Borromini, Bramante, Brunelleschi, Piero della Francesca, Giotto, Michelangelo, Raffaello, Romano and others;
•    to be exposed to the art of making places, traditional architecture, heritage regeneration, restoration and conservation methods.

Week 1 - 8 September Arrival / 8-15 September Roma
Roma (Colosseo, Piazza del Campidoglio, Villa Giulia, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Fontana di Trevi, Piazza di Spagna, Villa Borghese, Galleria Spada, Piazza San Pietro, Musei Vaticani, Castel Sant'Angelo, Appia Antica)

Week 2 - 15-22 September Firenze, with day trips to Pisa and Arezzo & Sansepolcro (Arezzo)
Firenze (Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio, Santa Maria del Fiore, Battistero, Galleria degli Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Pitti, Giardino di Boboli)
Pisa (Campo dei Miracoli, Torre di Pisa, Battistero)
Sansepolcro & Arezzo (Duomo di Arezzo, Museo Civico di Sansepolcro, Piero della Francesca)

Week 3 - 22-28 September Bologna, with day trips to Padova, Mantova, Urbino / 29 September Departure
