INTBAU Traditional Skills Programme INTBAU Traditional Skills Programme INTBAU Traditional Skills Programme Images: the medieval church of Archita & INTBAU students during the 2009 courses

INTBAU is expanding its successful Traditional Skills Programme in 2010 by offering a series of two week courses on lime work, brick work and stonemasonry and by introducing new courses for blacksmiths and joiners. Additionally, INTBAU will continue to develop “train the trainers” programme which aims to prepare future lecturers for heritage courses.

In 2010 INTBAU will be offering three courses in lime work, brick work and stonemasonry. The courses will be tailored towards the curriculum required for the NVQ type of qualifications in the United Kingdom.

All courses will be based at the Archita medieval church, Mures County, Romania, which represents an outstanding piece of architecture from the XIV century, built initially as a defence fortress against the invaders. The fortified church still has seven of the nine towers it originally had and is surrounded by two defence walls. The participants in the INTBAU masonry courses will have direct access to the medieval church and will be able to do real work in the citadel.

The INTBAU courses will be led by Henry Rumbold, MBE, a renowned British stonemason with over 40 years of experience in traditional restoration.
