Travel to Romania

Romania is easily accessible, served by buses, trains and planes galore.

By plane
There are plenty of direct flights to the capital of Romania, Bucharest, from a dozen or so Western countries, and, with a single plane change, from a great many more. Most flights arrive at Bucharest's two airports (Otopeni & Traian Vuia) . There are also flights to Timisoara, Constanta Arad, Satu Mare, Tārgu Mures, Cluj and Sibiu.

The closest international airports to Sighisoara are Targu Mures, Sibiu and Cluj. To all those three cities there are now direct connections from many European cities, especially from Germany, United Kingdom and Italy.

Romania joined the European Union on 1 January 2007 and a number of budget airlines now operate in Romania, such as: Sky Europe, Wizzair and Carparair

By train
With an unbeatable train service linking Romania to Western Europe and Russia, there is little reason to travel to/from Romania by bus. Romania's public bus system is virtually nonexistent, while fares offered by the numerous private bus companies operating buses to the West rarely compete with the inexpensive comfort offered by trains. There are plenty of trains from western Europe, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Moldova, Ukraine and beyond. The website address of the Romanian National Rail Company is www.cfr.ro

There's no departure tax when leaving Romania.
