Heritage Building Re-use Design Competition

Dunedin City Council in New Zealand and a number of partners have established a Heritage Buildings Design Competition for tertiary students.

This competition is to encourage student designers, either individually or as a team, to create an innovative reuse of a heritage building. This year’s competition is different from previous years. In 2015/2016 the competition focuses on a new build for a vacant site within a heritage precinct. It poses the question ‘What type of building can be inserted into the Princes Street streetscape on the former Century Theatre site (361 Princes Street) in a way that respects the surrounding heritage buildings and also encourages revitalisation of the area and a more vibrant streetscape?’

The winning student design will receive a $3000 (NZ$) cash prize and will have their entries showcased to the public. Selected entries will also be shown in a public exhibition coinciding with the awards evening.

The competition will run until 20th January 2016 and will be judged by a panel consisting of council staff, architects, independent developers and heritage professionals. It is open to International students.
