About Romania
INTBAU Romania is pleased to announce a one week charrette in the Natural Park of the Maramures Mountains, Romania. The aim of charrette is to produce a protection plan for the Park which struggles to keep its traditional wooden architecture character. The headquarters of the charrette will be in Viseu city and Petrova village.
Maramures has outstanding examples of wooden architecture and very skilled craftsman. However, since the collapse of communism the traditional style of wooden houses has been mostly abandoned in favour of the modernist type of buildings, often out of character and proportions. The new houses seem to employ very few traditional materials, the proprietors commissioning instead fake stone, plastic materials, generous quantities of cement and stainless steel.
The Natural Park of the Maramures Mountains is located at the North of Romania, in what it's known as the "historic Maramures". The landscape is mostly unspoiled and very beautiful. The Maramures Mountains gained the new status of Natural Park in 2005. The protected area is formed of 13 small towns and villages and at present there are no enforceable regulations towards the protection of the landscape and the old traditional wooden buildings, except those which are listed on UNESCO Heritage List.
The INTABU Charrette is supported by the administration of the Natural Park of the Maramures Mountains, to whom we are very grateful.
Fees & Registration
The Charrette offer 25 places. The attendance fees are as follows:
- 90 Euros for Central and East European citizen participants
(Only for nationals of Albania, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, The Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Republic of Moldova, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania, Russia, Poland & Ukraine who are resident in those countries)
The attendance fee includes: accommodation with local families/B&Bs,breakfast, lunch and dinner on the teaching days, tuition and materials. Please note that travel to and from Viseu/Maramures is not included in the participation fee.
