INTBAU Training Centre New Training Programme 2009 INTBAU - Training Centre in Archita

This intensive one week course is suited for apprentices, architecture students and young practitioners who have worked previously on a building site and are used with traditional tools and materials. This is also suited for people wishing to go into crafts business, start a career in conservation and completing the hands on requirements for NVQ type of qualifications. Cost: £495/person which includes tuition fees, accommodation for 7 days, 3 meals a day, protection equipment, tools and materials and local trips.

    • Health and Safety Rules
    • Walking tour of the fortified church and the village of Archita

    • Back to basics: Tools, Materials, Lime Mortar, Mixing lime mortar, Porcelanic additives, Cutting defective mortar for face joints, stone & brick.

    • Village Lecture: Archita
    • Village structure / planning
    • Conservation: study cases from England and Romania
    • Saxon house: foundation, walls, roof
    • Practical work: cutting out defective mortar from face joints, stone and brick work

    • Taking down section of walls of stone and brickwork. The correct procedure as carried out in the Preservation of Ancient Monuments and Rebuilding

    • Lecture and practical: Working on historic buildings in the UNESCO Heritage City of Sighisoara
    • Lecture and practical: fact finding area, conservation & restoration
    • Study: buildings, foundations, structure (walls), roof. Fractures & repairs.

    • Visit the village of Cloasterf
    • Structural repair of Saxon houses
    • Lecturing during a walk through the village and analysing different types of work undertaken over the last 7 years (some of which was supervised by Henry Rumbold): focus on structural repair, stonework, brickwork and plaster repair
      13.00 - 14.00 PICNIK LUNCH in the village of Viscri (UNESCO Heritage site)
    • Village walk
      18.00 - 19.00 Closing reception at the medieval Church of Archita and the inauguration of the exhibition of the best drawings of the week
