INTBAU College of Traditional Practitioners Hugh Petter

Hugh Petter is a British architect born in 1966. He graduated with Distinction from Portsmouth School of Architecture in 1990.   Afterwards, Hugh Petter won Rome Scholarships in 1990 and 1991.  In 1992 he helped to establish the Foundation Course at The Prince of Wales's Institute of Architecture, where he served as Senior Tutor for six years.

Hugh Petter sits on the Executive Committee of the Georgian Group.   He is a member of the British School at Rome and an assessor of the Europa Nostra Awards.

Work
Hugh Petter joined Robert Adam Architects as an Associate in 1993 and became a Director in 1997.   His work includes both new buildings and alterations, extensions and repairs to historic properties, as well as design consultancy and master-planning on projects in Britain, Italy, the Caribbean and North America.

Some of the projects Hugh Petter in involved in at the moment are: major alterations and extensions to listed country house and new outbuildings near Tring, Hertfordshire, residential development on the site of a building of townscape merit on the River Thames, a new classical monumental arch, Atlanta, USA and a new English Colonial style house in Paradise Island, the Bahamas.

Hugh Petter has won several prizes for both academic and architectural projects.   In 1998 he received a commendation in Harrogate District Award for Environmental Excellence, sponsored by the Civic Trust and the North Yorkshire RIBA.   In 1991, he was honoured with ARCUK William Kretchmer Award for Post Graduate Research and in 1990 he was awarded Building Magazine Diploma Prize.

Hugh Petter published various articles and essays on architectural subjects such as Back to the Future; Ancient Rome, the Archaeology of the Eternal City and The Synthesis of the Gothic and the Classic in The Golden City-Essays on the Architecture and Imagination of Beresford Pite.   He is a visiting tutor to several colleges, both in the UK and abroad.   Mr. Hugh Petter's work has been widely exhibited.
