Work
Michael Franck is the principal of Franck & Lohsen Architects, with an office in Washington. The firm specialises in classical approaches and modern sensibilities. Its projects include institutional, commercial, residential, religious and historic preservation across the United States, ranging in cost and scale up to $9 million. The firm's work consists of both new construction and historically sensitive renovations.
Michael Franck defines the approach of Franck & Lohsen Architects as 'neither archaeological nor revivalist. It is modern, classically liberal, progressive and forward-looking'. The practice is firmly grounded in the rich heritage of American and world history in order to continue through its work the positive development of that history. Mr. Franck praises the language of classicism for being 'most able to inspire, transcend, transform and improve the conditions of man'.
Prior to co-founding his practice, he spent a decade working as an architect, town planner and designer for firms, such as Cooper, Robertson & Partners, Allan Greenberg, Architect and Duany Plater-Zyberk, Architects and Town Planners. Mr. Franck was involved in planning new towns and additions to historic towns, developing large-scale mixed-use projects and designing large-scale institutional and civic buildings.
Michael Franck's work has been awarded with a number of prizes and was presented in various exhibitions. In 1991 he was honoured with the Burgee and Nolen Stipend Award by the University of Notre Dame. Michael Franck's work has been published in numerous publications. His design for the Plainfield Town International Design Competition won the first prize and was mentioned in several periodicals in 1997.
