Maurice Culot is an architect, urbanist and editor born in 1938 in Belgium. He is the principal partner of ARCAS Groupe, which is based on the principals of the New Urbanism.
Work
Maurice Culot founded ARCAS Paris and acts as its president. From 1979 he is the head of the Architecture History Department of l'Institut Français of Paris. He is also the president of the Fondation pour l'Architecture Moderne and of the Des Archives d'Architecture Moderne, based in Brussels, Belgium.
From 1995-1998, Maurice Culot was the Adviser of the government of Wollonia, in Belgium, for conversion of the ancient mills of Namur.
Mr. Culot taught at the Scuola Internationale di Architectura, Orta San Giulio, Italy, from 1992-1994 and was a visiting Professor of the Architecture School of Miami between 1990 and 1992. Maurice Culot also has taught at the Prince of Wales' Summer School from 1990-1997 and at l'Ecole d'Architecture de La Cambre, Bruxelles, from 1969-1979.
Maurice Culot is the author of a number of books on traditional architecture. Some of his latest publications include Bruxelles Art Nouveau, written with Anne Marie Pirlot, Objectif Mont-blanc: Les téléphériques de l'impossible, written with Lorenzo de Francisco, Charleroi, De l'Art Nouveau á l'Art Déco and La troisième dimension:Maquettes d'architecture.
Maurice Culot also works as an editor. In 2004 he coordinated a collection of illustrated books, at affordable prices. The books cover, among other things, cities of Europe, architecture and a number of new museums.
Maurice Culot was awarded l'Ordre national du Merite, Officier de l'Ordre des arts et lettres in 1994 and was honoured with the Grand Prix de la critique architecturale in 1984.
