Ethan Anthony is an American architect and academic. He attended the Boston Architectural College from 1972 – 1977. In 1980 he obtained his Bachelor's degree in Architecture from the University of Oregon. Anthony taught at Roger Williams College of Bristol, Rhode Island from 1984 - 1989 and at the Boston Architectural College from 1980 - 1985. He was also a visiting critic at the University of Notre Dame South Bend Indiana in 2004.
Work
Ethan Anthony has completed a wide range of churches, restorations and residential projects. In 1991 He joined HDB/Cram and Ferguson, an architectural firm which has designed traditional buildings for more than a century, being engaged in the general practice of architecture, historic preservation and interior design.
At present, Mr. Anthony is working on a new church complex for St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fishers, Indiana. The complex is envisaged to be completed in 2014 and will eventually include a 1500 seat church, K-8 and High schools, community centre, rectory and convent on 115 acres. The new church design will be based on English Gothic architecture. St. John Neumann Catholic Church, a 927 seat church based on Romanesque designs is under construction and Syon Abbey a monastery in Virginia is just being completed.
Ethan Anthony has been responsible for a number of high-profile projects, including the Cathedral-in-the-Woods Sudbury, Massachusetts, awarded with the IFRAA Award for Religious Art and Architecture and Syon Abbey winning an award for architecture from the Spanish stone producers Association in 1007.
Ethan Anthony speaks on architecture frequently including recent appearances at Dominican and Rice Universities and numerous lectures at churches around the United States including the keynote lecture - 150th anniversary celebration, Calvary Church, Pittsburgh in 2005. He has also published a number of articles in American and Australian journals. Recently his book “The Architecture of Ralph Adams Cram and his Office” was published by WW Norton.
