William T. Baker is an American designer who strongly promotes classical and traditional forms of building.   Largely self-taught, he found inspiration in the classical architecture of his hometown of Nashville, Tennessee. His father, a nationally acclaimed furniture designer, taught him to draw at a young age and introduced him to the finer aspects of architectural design. Mr. Baker received a Bachelor's degree in Finance from Auburn University in 1979 and a Masters in Business Administration from Emory University in 1982.

After a short career in banking, Mr. Baker pursued his first love of architecture by working in the in-house architecture office of an Atlanta real estate developer.   There, in a short time, he learned the basics of the business in which he would later specialize through self-study and experience in the field. Since founding his firm in 1985, Mr. Baker has completed over six hundred houses and several commercial projects.   Typical of his work is the creative use of natural materials such as aged fieldstone, slate or metal roofs, antique heart of pine floors, and hand-hewn timbers.

Mr. Baker's work is inspired by the richness of classical architecture found in the great homes of the southern United States and particularly Georgia.   He pays great attention to the details of artisanship and construction, exhibiting a keen eye for scale and proportion.   He is the 1993 recipient of the Arthur Ross Award for Architecture presented in New York City by Classical America, now the Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America.

In 2004, a book featuring twenty-three of his houses and three of his commercial projects was published by IMAGES publishing.   The book, New Classicists-William T. Baker, is part of a larger series featuring the work of some of the foremost classicists in the world today.
