ICTP MembersMurray G. Miller is a Canadian architect born in 1962. Educated primarily in Canada, his career path commenced with an introduction to civil engineering and environmental design as a planned precursor to architecture. In 1985, Murray was awarded a Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies (Architecture) from the Technical University of Nova Scotia, Canada; in 1987, he was awarded a Master of Architecture degree and in 1990 he received his Master of Environmental Design Studies (Conservation of the Built Environment) all from the same university. WorkMr. Miller has over twenty-four years of experience in architecture, architectural conservation, historic preservation and preservation planning through both private practice and government. He has worked extensively in Canada and also in the United States of America, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. In Canada, Murray was Period Architect for Public Works Canada; Senior Heritage Planner for the City of Victoria; Principal Heritage Planner for the City of Edmonton; and Provincial Heritage Conservation Officer for Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport. In the USA, he was the Historic Preservation Officer for the City of Phoenix; in New Zealand, Senior Heritage Conservation Planner for the City of Christchurch; and in the UK, he was the Senior Executive with Heritage Architecture Ltd, a private practice of architects and historic building consultants.Mr. Miller has acted as an expert witness for local authorities and property developers in the Environment Court of New Zealand on high profile heritage projects and has formulated Justification Statements in relation to listed buildings and conservation areas; visual impact assessments for new development in sensitive areas; conservation advice regarding the alteration, refurbishment and extension to listed buildings in the UK. Mr. Miller's professional affiliations include: membership of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada; Associate of the American Institute of Architects; Canadian Institute of Planners; Royal Town Planning Institute; Associate of the New Zealand Planning Institute; Canadian Association of Professional Heritage Consultants; and the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (UK). He is also a member of the College of Traditional Practitioners of the International Network of Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism (INTBAU). Mr. Miller is the Principal Historic Preservation Planner in the Historic Resources Division of PCR Services Corporation in Irvine, California, responsible for the identification, evaluation and documentation of historic resources and the resolution of project issues in compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties as well as federal, state and local environmental, cultural and historic preservation regulations including Section 106 and CEQUA. PCR Services Corporation is headquartered in Santa Monica, with offices in Irvine and Pasadena and was established more than 35 years ago as a specialist consulting practice offering environmental planning, biological, air quality, archaeological and historic resource services throughout Southern California.
