John Malick is an American architect with over 29 years of experience in architecture.   He entered Yale College as a Westinghouse Scholar and three years later he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Magna cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, with Departmental Honours and Highest Distinction in Engineering. John Malick was awarded a Master of Architecture degree from the Yale School of Architecture, in 1975.   He was also honoured with the McCloskey Memorial Prize in Structural Engineering.

Mr. Malick joined Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, working in the Portland and San Francisco offices since 1975-85.   In 1985 he joined HGHB Architects in San Francisco as the leader of the commercial architectural group. In 1989 John Malick established his own company, John Malick and Associates that specializes in the creation of historically inspired residences.  The firm's trained architects draw from numerous historical styles, including English Arts and Crafts, Tuscan and Neoclassical.

John Malick and Associates abandoned the modern idiom more than a decade ago because of what has been described as "persistent standardisation that neglected to tell the real story about our buildings' inhabitants".   The firm chose instead to return to a time when buildings reflected noble achievements, pastoral visions and sacred resonances.

John Malick's company embraces construction methods that revive the lost art of craftsmanship.  Time-tested materials and picturesque details such as post-and-beam construction reflect the care and craft that are signatures of artistic attention.   Mr. Malick's belief is that authentic finishes and hardware infuse a sense of beauty and livability in modern architecture.

Mr. Malick's work has been awarded with a number of prizes, including the Custom Home of the Year Grand Award (1997).   Many national magazines from the United States, such as Traditional Building, Custom House and Home, have featured his work.
