Alvin Holm is an American architect. He received his degree in History of Art at the Yale University in 1958.   From 1959-60 Mr. Holm attended graduate studies in city planning and architecture at Yale University.   In 1962 he was awarded a Master of Architecture degree with major honours by the University of Pennsylvania.

Alvin Holm started his career as a project designer, working for a number of companies, including Vincent Kling Partnership, Philadelphia.   He worked ten years for this company while teaching at the Bauhaus foundation program at the Philadelphia College of Art and studio courses at Drexel University. Mr. Holm opened his own office in 1976 and involved himself intensively in restoration work and historical architecture.   After several years of studies and successful experiences, Mr. Holm redirected his practice totally to design in the traditional manner.

Alvin Holm undertook a study of traditional architecture in 1976, to find out what make 'all old buildings across the board so much more pleasing than ninety percent of all the new built structures'.   He discovered the Classical Tradition and with the encouragement of Henry Hope Reed, who had founded the organisation Classical America, Mr. Holm became a devotee of Classicism.

Alvin Holm has since studied, taught and practiced classical design.   For twenty years he was the President of the Philadelphia Chapter of Classical America, an organisation that promotes the classical spirit of arts.   In Philadelphia, Classical America has provided courses in Classicism, tours and various related programmes over the years.
