Craig Hamilton is an architect practising in Mid-Wales.   He was born in 1961 in South Africa. Mr Hamilton studied architecture at the University of Natal in South Africa and has lived in Britain since 1986. Craig Hamilton trained with Michael Reardon & Associates (Cathedral Architects for Birmingham and Hereford).   This apprenticeship provided a sound grounding in design and conservation.

Craig Hamilton started his practice as a sole practitioner in Warwickshire.   The practice was relocated to Radnorshire in Mid Wales in 1995. The practice undertakes a range of architectural work and specialises in progressive classical design.   Current work includes the design of two new Country Houses, one in Herefordshire for the Duchy of Cornwall Estate at Harewood Park and one for the Lowther Estate in Cumbria. The practice is also responsible for the reconstruction of the Harewood Park Estate in Herefordshire.   This includes the refurbishment and reuse of a wide range of former agricultural and residential buildings on an important historic estate.   Other work includes a large classical extension to Upton House near Tetbury which is a Grade I 18th Century house by William Halfpenny.   Work is also currently being carried out on two other Grade I houses, namely Trefecca Fawr in Talgarth, and Llanelly House in South Wales, an important 18th Century Town House.

Other current projects include the design of a courtyard of twenty one new houses in a village near Hay on Wye, a major re-development of the town centre of Penrith in Cumbria, and the design of a private chapel in Scotland.

Completed projects include a major restoration and extension to The Mynde in Herefordshire (Listed Grade I) including a new wing, outbuildings, cloister and the re-ordering of the historic facades.  In 2001 the practice also completed a new Country House in the lowlands of Scotland as well as a classical Belvedere for a private estate in Herefordshire.   In 2004 a residential development of flats and offices was completed at Poundbury.

Over the years Craig Hamilton has received 3 natural stone awards in the new building category for various projects and has been the winner of two RIBA competitions.   The first RIBA competition was for a new Country House in Gloucestershire and the second for the restoration of Lowther Castle, a Grade I 19th Century castle near Penrith in Cumbria.
