Facciamo Centro Facciamo Centro, Spring 2007 The international Meeting “Facciamo Centro I DESIGN”, dedicated to the extension of the Italian town of Argelato, will take place in June 2007 (dates will be confirmed soon).   The Municipality of Argelato (Province of Bologna) and the University of Bologna - Department of Architecture and Urban Planning organised a charrette in the town of Argelato from 7 - 15 September, which involved public meetings and open debates.   The meeting will continue the work started last September by a group of teachers and practitioners in September 2006.

In June 2007, the work will be integrated with an international conference and the aim would be the implementation of a master plan (morphology, public spaces and mobility) for the town centre and an urban code (building typologies and arrangements, urban coherence, architectural and materials characteristics), for the extension of the town.

The activities will be hosted in the town of Argelato, at Villa Beatrice, an old rural villa and farm 20 minutes away from Bologna. Visits to countryside and to Bologna are scheduled.

The Charrette

The “Facciamo Centro” workshop was scheduled at Villa Beatrice in the centre of the new extension of Argelato (from September, 7th to 15th).   The workshop was characterized by a charrette process and a several public meetings; a creative and open source collection of visions and key points.   The Villa Beatrice will be the new urban centre, an administrative pole with public and green spaces, a cultural park and retails and facilities for a modern town. Argelato is closed to Bologna towards the Pianura Padana and the city of Ferrara in the Emilia-Romagna Region.

This first kick-off charrette was dedicated to the definition of a preliminary study on the future extension of the town of Argelato.   Through a series of field analysis, interviews, seminars and sketch projects the task force focused the principles for the future of the town based on a sustainable urban design process.

The "Facciamo Centro I DESIGN" Meeting

The meeting is dedicated to the improvement of a Sustainable Community in Argelato, starting from several cases all around Europe.   It is an opportunity to focus the culture of Regional Architectural Traditions through the presentation of good practise models ad strategies.   The international Meeting will define the cultural and technical framework in order to promote the built environment’s quality in the town.   The meeting will be chaired by Giuseppe Amoruso from University of Bologna - School of Architecture.

A short list of world’s leading experts will be invited to present their background and projects and the team will advise the local authority in updating the general plan of urbanism, which is meant to regulate the future development of the town, building the city towards a sustainable environment.   At the end of the meeting will be scheduled the next design phases as the implementation of a master plan and a related urban design code to support a smart growth of the town.
