INTBAU and the Architecture Faculty, Timisora University (AFTU) are very pleased to announce a second charrette on protection landscape for the commune of Bran, Transylvania, Romania. The teams aim to help the local authorities in updating the general plan of urbanism, which is meant to regulate the future development of the commune.
Bran is located the south of the Carpathians Mountains. Its beautiful landscape and the Bran Castle attract a significant number of tourists, both Romanian and foreign. The number of small businesses and B&Bs has increased considerably over the last years, but often the development was chaotic. A number of new developments didn't respect the typology of local architecture in terms of style, density and height.
Follow up Charrette
Architects from the UK, Norway and Romania along with academics and students of University of Timisoara, Faculty of Architecture started in 2005 to work on the landscape protection plan for Simon area and have completed preliminary studies on the future master plan of the Bran commune. In 2006, the work will be extended to similar protection plans for Balaban, Sohodol and complete the work on building typologies for the central area of all the villages and Bran centre, with guidelines for non protected intermediate zones.

Departure of participants
The aim for this charrette would be a final masterplan for the centre supported by the major stakeholders and the majority of the population of Bran. A suitable date for such a charrette would be august 2007 so that a complete PUG can be presented in autumn 2007.
The event is supported by Dan Dimancescu, the Honorary Consul of Romania in Boston, USA. The local authorities are also playing an active role in the forthcoming event and contributing greatly to its success.
