Buildings by Hand: The Design Process through Drawing

The International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism (INTBAU) will host an exhibition on modern traditional architecture and the artistic skills involved in creating beautiful and harmonious buildings and places from 28 January – 15 February 2013 at the Prince's Foundation in London. 

Buildings by Hand will showcase the completed projects of professional members of the INTBAU College of Traditional Practitioners (ICTP) as well as drawings, sketches, and paintings of the built environment. The exhibition will explore the connection between new traditional buildings and the artistic skills which help create them. This will be a travelling exhibition which will give ICTP members an international platform for promoting their work.

Monday 28 January

o    18.30-20.30: Exhibition private view, attended by ICTP members and their supporters, INTBAU members and Chapter representatives, and members of the press

Tuesday 29 January

o    18.00-18.45: Lecture, Professor Robert Adam (INTBAU UK Chair and Director at ADAM Architecture)
o    19.00-19.45: Lecture, Lucien Steil (ICTP member and Associate Professor at the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture)
o    20.00-20.30: Drinks

Wednesday 30 January

o    14.00-16.00: 'Drawing, Sketching, and Coffee Wash', a workshop for architecture students, Lucien Steil (ICTP member and Associate Professor at the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture) and Giuseppe Amoruso (ICTP member and Professor at the Politecnico di Milano School of Design)

Sketchbooks for the drawing workshop have been generously donated by Moleskine ®.

o    18.00-18.45 Lecture, George Saumarez Smith (ICTP member and Director at ADAM Architecture)
o    19.00-19.45 Lecture, Alireza Sagharchi (ICTP member and Principal at Stanhope Gate Architecture & Urban Design)

All evening events will take place in the Prince's Foundation's gallery space, 19-22 Charlotte Road, London EC2A 3SG. Attendance at all events is free, but places must be booked in advance. Public admission to the exhibition is free, and will generally be from 10.00am - 6.00pm, Monday - Friday.
