Drawing the City Architecture in Euro-Mediterranean Area, 15 - 16 June 2007 Morciano City

The aim of the summer program is to introduce students and professionals to the issues of architectural drawing and urban design, and to expose them to the cultural heritage of Emilia-Romagna Region.

The School is dedicated to the study of the European City and to the culture of Regional Architectural Traditions through a special graphic analysis from field drawing to urban and sustainable communities design.   The Atelier projects will be presented during a public exhibition and a conference which is scheduled on July, 6th 2007 with the participation of an International Jury.   Drawings and School projects will be collected in the Summer School 2007 Workshops Report.

Themes

The regional and national territory presents an amazing network of rural landscape, borghi, villages and fabrics based on local traditions.   Dedicated to the analysis of the historical settlements and traditional urban patterns and architectural typologies, the Summer School includes the study of a series of characteristic buildings, domains and towns.   This programme, placed under the responsibility of Giuseppe Amoruso from University of Bologna - School of Architecture, gives a group of students and professionals the opportunity to improve their technique of surveying, analyzing, and depiction.   It also allows them to discover the cultural heritage of the Val Conca territory and to get involved into the cultural life of the Emilia-Romagna Region.

The programme explores the following themes:

  • 1)History of the regional territory;
  • 2) Urban typologies analysis;
  • 3) Architectural Measured Drawing;
  • 4) Urban Design & Sustainable Communities.

Tours to Urbino, Rimini and ValConca Valley are been scheduled; the activities are hosted, in form of atelier, at the ancient town of Morciano di Romagna, 15 mins away from Rimini, in the amazing context of the River Conca Valley, which is rich of ancient mills.   Other issues will be dealt with, such as urban design in relation to the promotion of environmental quality by means of an urban design project (the charrette process based on a design atelier).   The scheduled activities, integrated with tours and special lectures about architecture, urban design and history, have the further purpose of revaluing the figure of the Town Architect, a professional who can preserve the quality of urban streetscape and traditional architecture issues.

Target group

Morciano students

The scientific contents are addressed to the following topics, source of insightful and innovative ideas: Drawing as the language of knowledge for design communication and architectural graphics, Architectural and urban Measured Drawing to achieve an analytical knowledge, the practice of Urban Design and the conventional and digital representation of architecture.

The school will be both inspirational and highly practical and aims to deliver ideas and guidance for those involved with the creating sustainable neighbourhoods of contemporary urban policy.   Languages: English / Italian / French

Registration & fees

The cost of the course, includes a fourteen-night stay and dinners (double room accommodation and meals), fees and insurance, two special dinner events, lectures, private tours to Urbino & others towns in the Valley, visits to wine domains and a welcome kit.

Enrollment: 500 €
Accommodation: 700 €

Candidates are invited to submit the following documents, in a printed form:

  • Application form available on web site: www.unibo.it/summerschool CV stating education and employment history (max. 2 A4’s) and a Portfolio of 5 A3 or 10 A4 (max.);
  • Statement (max. 1 A4) describing the reason for applying to the program.

Cancellation Policy. Cancellation fees apply as follows: 30 days prior to School start date the cancellation fee is 50% of admission fee; 0-29 days prior to School start date and No-Show the cancellation fee is the entire registration fee.

Scholarships are available, under request and after the CV evaluation. Payment swift received after 27 May, 2007: entire admission fee

Credits and evaluation

4 ECTS credits available. The Atelier projects will be evaluated during a public exhibition and conference which is scheduled on July, 6th 2007 with the participation of an International Jury.
