Morciano Summer School Italy, 17 June - 1 July 2006 Morciano City The Summer School in Architecture and Urban Design is coordinated by Giuseppe Amoruso and Roberto Mingucci as scientific director.

The aim of the summer program is to introduce architecture students and professionals to the issues of drawing and urban design, and to expose them to the rich architectural and cultural heritage of Emilia-Romagna regional context.

The regional and national territory presents an amazing network of rural landscape, borghi, villages and fabrics based on local traditions.   An international Summer School, scheduled each year on a regular basis, creates an opportunity to promote cultural issues through the study of quality of built environment.

Dedicated to the analysis of the historical settlements and traditional urban patterns and architectural typologies, the Summer School includes the study of a series of characteristic buildings, domains and towns.   This programme, placed under the responsibility of Giuseppe Amoruso from University of Bologna - School of Architecture, gives a group of students and professionals the opportunity to improve their technique of surveying, analyzing, and depiction.   It also allows them to discover the cultural heritage of the Val Conca territory and to get involved into the life of the Emilia-Romagna Region.

Other issues will be dealt with, such as urban design in relation to the promotion of environmental quality by means of an urban design project (the charrette process based on a design atelier).   The scheduled activities, integrated with tours and special lectures about architecture, urban design and history, have the further purpose of revaluing the figure of the Town Architect, a professional who can preserve the quality of urban streetscape and traditional architecture issues.

The Atelier projects will be presented during a public exhibition and conference which is scheduled on June, 30th 2006 with the participation of an International Jury.   Drawings and School projects will be collected in the Summer School 2006Workshops Report.
